The search for sustainability in agricultural production systems is becoming increasingly evident due to the environmental impact of agriculture and cattle-raising activities and their direct relationship with climate change. In this context, it is necessary to gather information on greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation alternatives in cattle ranching in the State of Espírito Santo to guarantee the sustainable production of animal products in the medium and long term so that society’s current and future demands can be met. The production of greenhouse gases accounted for as carbon dioxide equivalent alters the planet’s energy balance and affects the climate. In the agricultural sector, beef and dairy cattle farming play an important role in this scenario, and various alternatives such as pasture management, the use of integrated systems, the improvement of the quality of the diet offered to animals, the use of additives, the selection of more efficient animals, among others, can mitigate these gases. To do this, we need to encourage the dissemination and strengthening of actions by the various segments of the production chain in conjunction with government public policies so that the current scenario can be changed.
