DOWNLOAD TRACKING OF INCAPER PUBLICATIONS FROM 2018 TO THE FIRST HALF OF 2025: A COMPARATIVE PRE- AND POST-EDITORIAL PROJECT APPROACH

Abstract

Incaper provides a collection of digital publications through the Rui Tendinha Library website. The publications edited by Editora Incaper play an important role in disseminating the technologies generated or adapted by the institution itself. With the aim of studying and enhancing this editorial production, the project “Evaluation of Incaper's Editorial Production from the Perspective of its Target Audience was launched in June 2022, with one of its goals being to implement actions to promote the publications in order to increase their reach among the different audiences served. To measure the effectiveness of the actions implemented, a survey of download data for Incaper's publications from 2018 to June 2025 was conducted, in order to analyze digital reach and observe possible changes in the behavior of the target audience before and after the start of the research. The data were extracted from Incaper’s Institutional Repository, hosted on the DSpace platform, and organized in a spreadsheet by category, title, year, and number of downloads. Since the number of publications varies from year to year, the average number of downloads per publication per year was calculated, allowing for a more proportional and accurate comparison across years. The results indicate a significant increase in digital engagement after the implementation of the project’s actions. They also made it possible to identify the performance of individual publications. This information may guide actions by authors, managers, and others involved in editorial activities at the Institute. Finally, further studies are recommended to deepen the understanding of additional factors that influenced the variation in the number of publication downloads, considering the performance of the most sought-after themes and categories.
