Abstract

The papaya crop (Carica papaya L.) represents an important source of income for various tropical and subtropical regions. However, its productivity and postharvest quality can be severely affected by factors such as the incidence of pests and diseases, especially fungal diseases that compromise the fruits after harvest. Given the restrictions on the use of chemical pesticides and the growing demand for more sustainable practices, bioinputs emerge as a viable and effective alternative. This study aimed to review the potential use of biological agents in the management of the two-spotted spider mite and postharvest diseases in papaya cultivation. The methodology consisted of a bibliographic survey in scientific databases, prioritizing recent and indexed articles, as well as the analysis of practical experiences conducted in producing areas. The main biological products employed include entomopathogenic fungi, predatory mites, and biofungicides based on antagonistic microorganisms. The results indicate significant reductions in mite populations and pathogen development, with a positive impact on fruit health and shelf life. The integrated application of bioinputs, combined with monitoring and cultural practices, showed greater control efficiency and lower environmental impact. It is concluded that bioinputs represent a promising tool in the context of sustainable papaya production, contributing to the reduction of chemical residues and adding value to the product in both domestic and international markets.
